Integrated entrance control elevates futuristic Melbourne Quarter Tower

At the forefront of Melbourne’s urban development, the prestigious Melbourne Quarter Tower has been secured in style with eight lanes of Entrance Control’s EasyGate LC speedgates installed in June.

The ultra-modern speedgates contain advanced RFID, Bluetooth and QR code readers, ensuring authorised visitors and workers frequenting the building’s commercial offices have multiple ways to identify themselves when accessing the 34-storey tower’s lifts.

Entrance Control General Manager Michael Bystram said the inclusion of more contactless access methods streamlines the entrance process and was becoming standard with modern access control.

“The flexibility offered by RFID, Bluetooth and QR readers allow us to cater for a wide range of user preferences, which is crucial for premium office buildings where efficiency and convenience are paramount.”

A Schindler Port destination lift control system built into the speedgates integrates with the building’s access management system, allocating lifts intelligently to provide visitors with the fastest route to their destination, making trips more efficient and adding an extra layer of security.

Bystram said the EasyGate LC speedgates were installed to meet the high-security requirements of Melbourne Quarter Tower’s commercial tenants, ensuring only authorised individuals could access specific areas, providing a secure environment for all occupants.

Six lanes of speedgates on the ground floor control access to different levels, and two additional lanes have been installed at the entrance to Level Two to secure the national headquarters of health insurance provider Medibank.

Bystram said the sleek matt-black glass finish of the EasyGate LC speedgates, combined with their elegant electric-blue wing lights, enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the building’s entrance and signalled to visitors when they were cleared to proceed after being identified.

“The wing lights play a key role in communicating with visitors and enabling efficient throughput, they’re more than just a design feature and epitomise our aim to blend aesthetics with functionality to create an inviting yet secure entry point,” said Bystram.

“The installation at Melbourne Quarter Tower showcases the adaptability and integration capabilities of Entrance Control’s advanced security solutions and pushes the boundaries of what sophisticated, stylish and efficient access control for modern commercial buildings can look like.”

In addition to 15,000sqm of office space, the tower contains 3,000sqm of vibrant retail outlets and offers access to 7,000sqm of technology-enabled green spaces. This variety makes it a natural focal point for visitors and a home away from home in the heart of Melbourne’s dynamic cityscape for the approximately 15,000 employees who work there.

Working with Lendlease on the landmark project had been a win-win experience and reinforced the tower’s status as one of Australia’s top commercial developments, Bystram said.

“Their vision for Melbourne Quarter Tower aligns perfectly with our mission to marry state-of-the-art security solutions with the buildings of the future.”
