23 Nov Gym access made easy with speedgates

Cannington Leisureplex was designed with the community in mind, so it should come as no surprise it had a set of EasyGate SG speedgates installed to simplify access to its on-site gym.

The Western Australia leisure centre’s former entry setup made access complicated and time-consuming for customers. The new design uses two lanes of EasyGate SG speedgates to streamline admission to its gym reception and workout areas.

“The Cannington Leisureplex had an automated door as its main access control before the gym reception. This prevented guests from entering to talk to staff at the gym without a member of staff letting them in prior,” said Matt Beattie of Marshall Beattie Automation.

“The new EasyGate SG setup allows patrons to freely enter the gym and either continue through the new gates for valid members or visit the gym reception if they have questions for staff.”

The EasyGate SG allows the facility to provide swift access for customers through a tap-and-go card REA Touch Controller. Cannington Leisureplex uses modern Envibe leisure management software, which integrated with the new gates to make changing members’ access rights and gathering insights on the frequency and timing of visits to the leisure centre simple.

With wheelchair accessibility and a design to meet Disability Discrimination Act of Australia requirements, the new gates have made access easy for all customers, Mr Beattie says.

Centaman Entrance Control General Manager Michael Bystram said the gates, which were installed in May, were a timely addition to the facility, particularly in light of the risks posed by Covid-19 this year.

“The gates include a contactless card reader and a barrier that swings open on presentation of a valid access card, without anybody needing to make contact with it. This helps to reduce common touch points in a high traffic part of the facility – reducing any risk of virus spread.”

Cannington Leisureplex is a community centre for fitness and play. It offers swimming pools, a gym, sports courts, function centre, playground, café and multimedia library, and is a popular choice for families and those wanting to stay fit and healthy.
