Entrance Control introduces a portal to better security

Security Portal Improves Safety, Security & Efficiency

A new range of security portals has been launched in Australia and New Zealand to help improve the safety, security and efficiency of buildings and facilities.

Security portals are designed to stop people illegally entering facilities by ‘tailgating’ authorised users through entrance control gates. They are ideal for unmanned entrances and provide a greater level of security than traditional turnstiles or speedgates.

Entrance Control General Manager Michael Bystram said the company’s new range of security portals was simple and easy to use, despite the impressive technology and security features behind them.

“The first door opens and the authorised person proceeds into the portal. The first door closes, and the anti-tailgating system checks only one person is in the portal. Once this check is complete, and any additional security checks have been passed, the second door opens to let the authorised person into the secure area.”

Mr Bystram said the portals are a particularly impressive option for gyms, corporate offices and other facilities that wish to provide 24-hour access, without the need for 24-hour staffing.

“Unlike simple infrared or camera-based tailgate detection systems that only alert to unauthorised entry after the event, security portals prevent these types of events from happening in the first place.

“There are obvious cost savings from not having to be on site all the time and through reduced staffing levels. You’re also able to eliminate the time and effort spent identifying those who have entered dishonestly.

“For the likes of gyms, a security portal stops people who haven’t paid for a membership using the facility by tailgating in with friends. This can increase revenue by making people join the gym to use the facilities. It also creates a safe environment for members to work out in by stopping potential trouble makers from entering the gym,” Mr. Bystram said.

Entrance Control’s new security portal range features five different products, each with its own strengths. All feature voice instructions to guide users, and can be set to have both doors open for certain hours or for deliveries.

The portals feature attack and bullet resistant glass. The use of virtually unbreakable security glass is extremely important for business and employee security. Other safety features include integration to the fire alarm, battery back-up to provide continued operation in case of power failures, an internal anti-panic button to power down the last door opened so it can be manually opened, and IR safety sensors to check the doorway is clear before closing. The portals also come with an internal intercom for communication with security or reception teams.

The new security portal range

  • The Centurion Twin portal is the ideal security solution for high traffic facilities. It has the highest throughput of Entrance Control’s five security portals, is spacious, user-friendly and welcoming, and can be configured to incorporate one Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant lane.
  • The small footprint of the Centurion Chimera portal is ideal for buildings with smaller reception areas or less area to dedicate to access control. The manual doors mean there are no motors that need servicing and maintenance, making it a cost-effective option. A DDA compliant version of the Chimera is available.
  • The Centurion Classic portal was designed to provide a high level of security with a small footprint, while still offering a user-friendly, welcoming experience for visitors. It offers second-to-none value for money, with the lowest cost in the Entrance Control security portal range.
  • The Centurion Cylindrical portal offers a small footprint and polished design, ensuring it will fit in with the architecture of almost any facility, whilst maintaining effective anti-tailgating control. A DDA compliant version of the Cylindrical portal is available.
  • The Centurion Slide portal design can be altered to suit the aesthetic of any facility, without compromising on security. The portal has a familiar door design, making it user friendly for visitors, and its larger footprint means its spacious and welcoming.
